Pigeon Spikes

Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment. ~Matthew 9:22

What now?

It's nearing the end of April, not to mention the school year, which means...
more holidays. And we wonder why it's so hard to work these days.
Yes, next week on Tuesday is some old communist holiday and Thursday is labour day? (correct me if I'm wrong) So, of course, we get the whole week off.

We've been invited to Krakow for the holiday by some friends. They said we could have their apartment for a few days and they'll go to the mother-in-law's in the country. I really wanted to go to the seaside, but there's enough Sc---sh in my blood that I won't turn down free lodgings - as long as Winston can go too. That's my only stipulation. We're waiting for word on that.

I've been offered a job in England for the summer, thank goodness. Now, I can relax, sort of. I have to buy a ticket and then I guess just await further instructions. I feel funny (in a good way) about visiting the land of my ancestors and my queen :) It's so nice they let me in :)

We went with Monika and Marek again to Rogalin yesterday. Here are some pics (and some from the last time, too):
The 2 Yorkies are Monika and Marek's dogs. Pavarotti left, Queenie right.

Back 2 Work

It's been a nice long weekend, last Thursday off until today. Easter in Poland is a big deal.
In May there's another long weekend. Boy, it's good to be a teacher.

Winston's getting so big. And he's started farting. All the time. Raunchy. Eew.
He's also losing teeth. We've collected 2 so far. :)
We had to get him a new collar. We took him to Lake Rusalka (sp?) on the weekend and Winston met many dogs. Winston LOVES people and he LOVES other dogs. He's a lovable guy. Well, there was one Husky he just didn't want to say goodbye to and stubbornly pulled and pulled, trying to run after him until SNAP! went the plastic clip of his collar and goodbye Winston. So, now he has a sturdier leather, buckle-up collar.

Winston's also an expert thief. He likes to collect various objects, his favourite being shoes and slippers, and put them in his bed or under mine.
Here's a pic of Winston caught in the act. I think this time he's got toilet paper. From where? Who knows!!!

Not too much new. I got curtains up in Rich's room. They're quite nice, if I do say so myself. Pics soon.

More Adventures

So I woke up at 2:45am, got dressed, got my documents, called a cab and went to the train station for my 4 hour trip to Warsaw. It wasn't too bad, I was able to sleep most of the way. I have a vague recollection of saying something to the woman next to me in English and she gave me a bizarre look - I think I was talking in my sleep. Oops :)
Anywho, once in Warsaw things were easy enough. The UK embassy is across the street from the train station. Once there it was simply a matter of waiting.
First of all, let me say that I was completely disappointed in the running of operations there. My appointment was for 9:30 and I was told to come early, if I was late they'd reject my application.
So I was there at 8:30. But, you have to wait in the hall til they let you in and there are no chairs in the hall. Off to a slow start. Finally, I was admitted into the room where you wait for an angry Polish woman to call your name and collect your documents. I waited about and hour and a half for this. Then I waited another hour for an interview. And, Wendy, don't be too jealous, the prices for visas changed and I had to drop 1200 zloty for this visa! Ridiculous.
All said and done though, I'm happy to announce that I now have my 2 year holiday maker working visa for the UK. This summer I'm off to England! YAY!
One more note of interest, I ate at Subway for lunch in Warsaw! Subway!!! My favouritist lunch restaurant. Yummy.
I have a 4 hour lesson this morning and then I'm on holiday. Unfortunately, after yesterday, I think we'll postpone our trip to the seaside. :(
